Surfing holiday in Egypt, Turkey and Germany

Egypt

Dahab

Dahab means "gold" in Arabic. The conditions for surfing fans are also golden. Those in the know regard the region is as an insider tip for surfers and kite surfers. Due to the thermals caused by the nearby mountains, at least a force 4 wind blows around the lagoon on about 300 days a year. This guarantees ideal conditions for a surfing holiday.

The prevailing north wind blow offshore to side shore and is therefore great for slalom and freestyle windsurfing. In just short of five minutes, you can surf to a wave spot with swells that are 2-3 metres high. And in the lagoon you can find the ideal conditions for kite surfing. Advanced kiters can enter the water here from a starting ramp. Beginners can make their first attempts in a protected bay in shallow water they can stand in.

The surfing station from Harry Nass is directly located at the beach of the Iberotel Dahabeya.

Hurghada/Makadi Bay

Whether it is shallow water or waves you want, any wind, all types of surfers get their money's worth here. Hurghada has been long established as a surfing Mecca, and Makadi Bay is very popular among wind surfers.

The local surfing station is located on the speed strip. Wind is not blocked by hotel buildings. There is a 600 metres wide practice area directly in front of the surfing centre, which is bordered by two coral reefs thereby preventing anyone from being carried out to sea. On the windward side you can safely have your first attempts at kite or windsurfing. The open sea starts outside this 2x2 kilometre Makadi Bay where experienced wave riders can get their money's worth in wind waves and swells up to 2.5 metres.

Marsa Alam/Madinat Coraya

Marsa Alam is still relatively untouched and located close to the Wadi El-Gemal national park. Almost the entire stretch of coast is surrounded by a belt reef, however there is an opening in front of the local surfing station.  A shallow water lagoon provides the ideal conditions for novices, because the reef on the windward side can be easily recognised and avoided. Outside the lagoon, the sea can becomes choppy and sometimes considerable swell builds up. In Marsa Alam, the north wind blows maily side shore from the left. Due to the proximity to the national park, kite surfing is not available and is also not permitted for private kiters.

There is enough wind and waves here to have all the fun in the world, but they are more predictable than on the open sea.
